Abstract
The report dealt with a group of the potentially fatal and progressive acute liver diseases occurring after heavy alcohol ingestion in chronic alcoholics. One was a case of acute alcoholic hepatitis and the other of sclerosing hyaline necrosis.
The authors suggested the two represented the acute phase of cirrhosis and preceded the cirrhotic lesion. They emphasized that an important element in prevention of alcoholic cirrhosis was early recognition of an initial episode of acute alcoholic hepatitis and sclerosing¢¥ hyaline necrosis.. The reasons for separate description of these lesions were given, and importance of liver biopsy to have the early definite diagnosis was described.
